Every smile starts with a complimentary new patient examination!

Your complimentary new patient examination will give you the opportunity to meet our team, learn more about orthodontics, receive a comprehensive initial exam, and be informed about which treatment options may best meet your needs. During your initial examination, Drs. Alex Cassinelli and Shiv Shanker will:

• Review your dental and medical history forms.
• Provide a complete oral exam, with preliminary X-rays, to determine if treatment is necessary.
• Help you create a customized preliminary treatment plan.
• Discuss all financial information, insurance options, and payment plans.

What happens after the initial consultation?

Our office typically uses a series of two appointments to evaluate your orthodontic condition and develop a treatment plan:

Records Appointment

If treatment is recommended at the initial visit, we will need to schedule an appointment to gather more comprehensive orthodontic records which include digital X-rays and photographs of the face and teeth, and impressions (models) of the teeth. The sum total of all of this information comprises what is known as comprehensive orthodontic diagnostic records.

Consultation Appointment

Following the records appointment, the doctors will analyze the records and jointly confer to develop a diagnosis and treatment plan. Their findings and recommendations will be explained in detail during the consultation appointment by one of our Practice Administrators. In complex situations, the doctors will personally participate during the consultation.

The treatment plan, including the length of time and the cost, will be fully discussed. The Practice Administrator will help you develop a payment schedule and will be glad to assist you with filing insurance forms.

In the most severe cases where other dental specialists need to contribute to treatment, we will help you make those necessary contacts.  If, for example, jaw surgery is necessary in addition to  orthodontic correction, the doctors will refer you to an oral surgeon and will work closely with the surgeon during that phase of the treatment.

Initiation of Treatment

The placement of orthodontic appliances is the next appointment for the patient. Depending on the treatment plan the first appointment may be a longer one that may last up to two hours.

Scheduling Appointments

Visiting the orthodontist every 4-8 weeks is an important part of your orthodontic treatment with regular checkups lasting between 20-40 minutes. Our practice will work with you to ensure that your appointments are scheduled around your busy schedule; so that you will spend less time in the dental chair and more time enjoying the things you love to do. For your convenience we have a variety of early morning and evening hours.

Visiting the dentist during orthodontic treatment

It is very important that you continue to visit your family dentist once every six months , even during your orthodontic treatment, for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure that you are receiving the best care possible.
